Welcome to NeISS

The NeISS (National eInfrastructure for Social Simulation) project aims to introduce social scientists to new ways of thinking about social problems, and provide new services, tools and research communities to support them.

You can find out more about the background to the project on the about us pages.  Examples of the use of NeISS infrastructure can be found on the application areas pages; and tools and services made available by the project can be accessed through the tools pages.

What is Social Simulation?

Social simulation is a relatively new and rapidly expanding field with applications across the academic research community.  Computer models are created which predict how future communities might be made up and how they might behave.   This information is then of use to researchers in a large number of fields from economics to healthcare; and is of importance to policy makers within the public and private sector.

You can view the results of a simulation model for the city of Leeds at our partner site.

The NeISS Project is funded by  JISC
